It's been an exciting few days, meeting interesting delegates from other countries in the youth caucus. It seems like talking to delegates, both youth and delegates representing countries and other major groups, and hearing their experiences/perspectives will be the most important part of the next two weeks. Hearing the other youth delegates' stories proves that with the energy and passion that youth bring to the table, we can make substantial changes to our local and global communities. One of the youth delegates is from Uganda and after attending a UN conference in 2005, he founded a non-profit to help citizens install energy efficient stoves and switch fuel sources from old growth trees to young trees planted for the specific purpose of supplying fire wood. Another delegate, this time from Sweden, started an international non-profit to raise awareness and take action on global climate change. He works with 25 other youth and just published a brochure explaining how climate change will affect aspects of daily life. As day 2 of CSD starts, the SustainUS delegation is gearing up for another hard but exciting day!
