Mission Statement |
|
Founded in 2001, SustainUS is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization of young people advancing sustainable development and youth empowerment in the United States. Through proactive education and advocacy at the policy-making level and at the grassroots, we are building a future in which all people recognize the inherent equality and interdependence of social, economic, and environmental sustainability. We strive to reflect our values through the diversity of members and projects, our ongoing commitment to educating ourselves and others, and the way we live our
lives.

Membership is on an individual basis, not on the basis of
university student groups. Three levels of membership exist: Associate
Members, Voting Members, and Steering Committee Members. The Steering Committee makes everyday decisions and leads the
group, while major decisions are taken to Voting Members or certain
sub-committees, as appropriate. Members are also grouped by age: high
school, college, and young professional. Members range in age from 13
to 26.

We encourage you to read over our policy platform to see exactly where SustainUS stands on issues relating to sustainability.
The provisions of the policy document are debated and revised periodically among the membership. We enthusiastically encourage every member of the group to become a part of the discussion. For more information, email Policy Coordinators Dominic MacCormack (dominic@sustainus.org) or Matt Maiorana (matt.maiorana@sustainus.org).
