1. Contact Meg, our Geocluster Coordinator. We will
help you! We can provide guidance, connect you with SustainUS members already in your region and help you with outreach.
2. Plan an introductory planning meeting. First ask yourself: "Why would othes like to join? What are possible projects that people would be interested in?" Then set a location and date for the meeting. Set up a phone conference if your area is too dispersed to meet
(contact us for help with this).
3. This brings us to the next crucial step - publicize! Spread the work through emailing or snail mailing high school and college environmental and social justice groups. Also target local nonprofit groups or any progressive companies in the area, as they will have interns and young employees that may be interested in joining. Don?t forget your friends, they may be interested or can help publicize. You can also post up fliers in "progressive" locations such as natural food stores, co-operatives, outdoor equipment stores, coffee
shops, etc.
4. Hold the introductory meeting or conference call. It should be fun and participatory. Here is a sample agenda
5. Contact those on your list about the new Geocluster and the project you're planning. Have fun social events! Social ties are what help many Geoclusters grow. Allow time before and after meetings for socializing and create a
personal environment at meetings and events.
6. Continue to publicize and recruit. Ask new members to invite a friend.
