From November 28 to December 9, 2005, SustainUS joined hundreds of other young people in Montreal Canada to attend an international meeting that discussed how the international community will move forward on tackling global climate change. This meeting was the 11th Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework on Climate Change and the 1st Meeting of the Parties (MOP) of the Kyoto Protocol, which is an international, legally-binding agreement committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions as to help halt the affects of global warming.
SustainUS had a dozen delegates in Montreal as observers to the COP/MOP. Accredited through our partners Energy Action and Climate Campaign, SustainUS was there to demonstrate that the U.S. position on climate change is not consistent with our values or those of mainstream America. SustainUS supported the larger youth movement in Montreal with trainings, communications work, and some fabulous t-shirts. To see pictures from our times there, click here.
SustainUS also had the pleasure of speaking to Andy Revkin, acclaimed climate change reporter of the New York Times, who featured SustainUS in his reporting. Click here to read the story.
Speaking of fabulous, major props go out to the SustainUS delegates that were able to come to Montreal:
