SustainUS International Youth Delegation

to the UN Climate Negotiations (COP26)

The First SustainUS QT2SBIPOC (Queer, Trans, Two-Spirit, Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Youth Delegation to the COP26 UN Climate Negotiations in Glasgow, Scotland

What is COP?

The annual UN climate negotiations, or the Conference of Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, are where countries of the world come together to discuss global responses to the climate crisis. COP is where the Paris Agreement was developed and agreed upon along with many other protocols for determining future climate action. SustainUS has been showing up at these conferences for many years to advocate for the voice of the youth and make bold statements both inside and outside the halls of negotiation.

Weaving Our Paths: SustainUS’ first-ever QT2SBIPOC youth delegation to COP

From November 1-12, 2021, SustainUS sent an all Black, Indigenous, Two-Spirit and queer people of color delegation to COP26, the UN Climate Talks in Glasgow, Scotland. Eleven youth climate leaders from around the continent had the chance, eight for the first time, to represent their communities by traveling to the United Nations. Our delegation brought a new perspective to the purpose of the U.N. climate negotiations as a coalition-building locus for our broader movements for climate justice and Indigenous sovereignty.

We are committed to maximizing the centering and amplification of traditionally oppressed, excluded, silenced and marginalized voices in the discussions of climate change.
