Gaia Lucia Lopez Barrera is a 19-year-old student at College of the Atlantic. She was born and raised in a culturally rich, biodiverse, yet also corrupt and unjust Mexico. Her willingness to create meaningful change rose from experiencing these contrasts while growing up. At the age of 16 she was awarded a scholarship to study high school at the United World College in Costa Rica, which enriched her life immeasurably. By the end of this experience she knew that her multiple and divergent passions, ranging from Environmental Studies, Social Justice, Gender Studies, Film, and Literature could possibly be pursued and intertwined through studying Human Ecology. Currently, she is exploring the complexities and nuances of this venture.
