Kiera graduated with a degree in political science from Boston University. She taught middle school math for two years with Teach for America in New Orleans, serving majority African American students. During her time as a teacher, she served as an afterschool mentor for some of her female students. Through her teaching experience and time as a mentor, she noticed the lack of confidence her female students had in math and the sciences. She also found her ability as a teacher limited by policies that disproportionately affect minority communities. This feeling of limitation brought her to Duke University to study public policy. She is interested in using social policy to guide effective social entrepreneurship initiatives in major cities, particularly for women of color. While majority of her experience is in American education, she is open to learning about many sectors.
