Monica Murthy is a senior at American University from Gillette, New Jersey. She is pursuing a degree in International Studies with a focus on foreign policy, and a Certificate in Advanced Leadership Studies. At AU, Monica successfully lobbied the Panhellenic organization on campus for mandatory sexual assault bystander intervention training for Greek organizations on campus, and wrote her degree research paper on violence against women in India and the effects of social norms on that trend. Monica also served as the first Executive Director for the AU International Relations Society, and launched a program to bring the United Nations Association to campus. In addition to her work on campus, Monica spent a year abroad in Europe, and interned with the European Social Observatory in Brussels Belgium, working on youth employment and gender pay gap research. After graduation, Monica plans to work on foreign policy and defense strategy, and advocate for women within the ranks of the government. She enjoys reading, listening to music, and traveling!
