Swetha is a first generation immigrant from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and now resides in New York. After having completed her degree in Biology, French and Global Health from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she began organizing for environmental and climate justice as a fellow at the NAACP then worked for the NYC Mayor. Swetha’s first experience with climate change was when she was a child in Chennai, a city that is flooded during the rainy season due to climate change and lack of infrastructure. Her goal is to ensure that voices of frontline communities, like hers, are centered in climate policy and to connect resilience movements across the globe.
